The Selection Process: Psychological Examination - The Purpose and Limit of Psychological Screening

Most large and medium-sized law enforcement agencies now use psychological screening as part of the hiring process. There are some variations in how the psychological screening is done. The psychological screening of police candidates is not a thorough analysis of one’s personality. It is not a search for a person with a perfect personality. The purpose of psychological  screening for law enforcement candidates is simply to avoid hiring any person who has such serious psychological problems as to become a problem to the agency itself or to citizens.
