Unit 4: Reading Comprehension

Sentence Completion Questions: Choosing the Best Answer

Complete-the-sentence questions provide a sentence with a single word or two words missing. Your job is to figure out which of the answer choices is correct. When there are two blank spaces, you need to make sure that both words make sense in the sentence.

To answer sentence completion questions, you must study the context of the missing word. The context is the text surrounding the missing word. The context can provide enough hints to determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word.

Although you are being tested on your vocabulary skills, these questions also test your ability to create a  coherent sentence. You need to determine how the parts of the sentence relate to each other first, in order to figure out how to fill in the blank.
